Arsenal sailed past FC Zurich in their opening game in the Europa League. Mikel Arteta made seven changes to the side from last Sunday's defeat at Old Trafford.
New signing Marquinhos opened the scoring for the Gunners as he converted an Eddie Nketiah pass for his first goal for the club in his debut match. Zurich leveled the scoreline from a penalty after Nketiah fouled Aliti in the box just before half-time.
And it was Eddie Nketiah again who scored the winner in the second half with Marquinhos returning the favor for the striker.
Final scoreline FC Zurich 1-2 Arsenal.
Player Ratings
Matt Turner (GK) (7/10)
Apart from a shaky moment in the first half, he was a spectator for most of the match. When Zurich started pressing in the last few minutes he made a decent save.
Takehiro Tomiyasu (DF) (7/10)
Was solid in defense and attack. Did not put a foot wrong. Great display.
Rob Holding (DF) (7/10)
Dealt with long balls pretty well in the dying minutes. Did not have much to do as Arsenal dominated most of the match.
Gabriel (DF) (8/10)
Pretty good outing for the Brazilian. His passing was outstanding throughout the match.
Kieran Tierney(MF) (7/10)
A great display from the Scotland international. His offensive runs were pretty good and contributed to defense as well.
Albert Sambi Lokonga (MF) (7/10)
Distributed the ball very well. Some of his defense-splitting passes were beautiful to watch.
Granit Xhaka (MF) (8/10)
Was found all over the pitch. His partnership with Martinelli is growing every match. Stretched the Zurich keeper with a well-taken shot as well.
Marquinhos (MF) (8/10)
Had his first Arsenal goal. He may not be as skillful as Saka, but he can develop into a good winger if he is given enough game time. His celebration after the goal was really emotional.
Fabio Viera (MF) (6/10)
Made some loose passes in the midfield. Not a great debut but let us wait and see if he is worth the money.
Gabriell Martinelli (MF) (6/10)
Was not much involved in most of the possession play by Arsenal. But whenever he got the ball he made a threatening run forward.
Eddie Nketiah (FW) (8/10)
My Man of the Match.
Was involved in all three goals of the match. It was an excellent outing for the young striker as he is sure to give selection headaches to Arteta upfront.
Substitutes
Oleksandr Zinchenko (DF) (6/10)
Did what he does best. Brought stability to the squad with his presence.
Bukayo Saka (MF) (6/10)
Linked well with Odegaard after coming on. Had a couple of shots but didn't find the target.
Martin Odegaard (DF) (6/10)
It's a delight to watch his ball control and passes.
Gabriel Jesus (FW) (7/10)
He got a couple of shots on target but unfortunately didn't get into scoring
